Introduction
Bloc, a prominent landlord managing several multi-tenant commercial sites across London, sought to transform connectivity at one of their flagship locations in Hackney Wick. The site, comprising eight diverse buildings and over 100 business units, housed a variety of businesses ranging from digital media companies to catering and events services. A lack of local fibre to the premises meant existing tenants were struggling to make do with extremely slow ADSL internet provided over old copper phone lines which failed to meet the connectivity demands of modern businesses. Netzoom was brought on board to design, implement, and manage a multi gigabit capable fibre and Wi-Fi network tailored to the needs of Bloc and their tenants.
Challenges
Wide Range of Tenant Needs: Businesses in the complex had different requirements and priorities, from superfast internet for media companies to reliable connectivity for medical couriers. With businesses at different stages and scales, it was crucial to offer competitive pricing and a variety of options to meet their specific needs.
Diverse Building Types: The eight standalone buildings varied in style and layout, requiring customised approaches for each one.
Lack of Existing Infrastructure: The site had no structured cabling or provision for internet, necessitating a solution built from scratch.
Fast turnaround: Installation had to be completed within weeks, ensuring everything was operational before tenants moved in.
Solution
High-Speed Fibre Backbone with failover: A 10 Gbps fibre connection was installed, providing a resilient and fast backbone for the entire site.
Pervasive Wi-Fi Network: Using careful planning, including wifi floorplan heat mapping and on-site signal testing, Netzoom installed full coverage Wi-Fi throughout the buildings. Allowing tenants to roam freely across the entire site without losing connectivity.
Netzoom Customer Portal: As with all our sites the Netzoom customer portal lets customers get connected instantly, as well as managing their billing, payments and speed package.
Private Pre-Shared Keys (Dynamic PSK): Each tenant was provided secure, segregated network access through a unique passphrase for the Netzoom wifi network as well as wired access, ensuring data privacy while allowing tenants to easily connect all their devices including cameras and printers.
Structured Cabling: Multi-gigabit internet sockets were installed in each unit, enabling tenants to connect their devices seamlessly.
Phased Implementation: The project was executed in stages to align with building occupancy schedules, ensuring a smooth transition for incoming tenants.
